I took a low-key relaxing stroll round Wilson Reserve this morning
between 10 am and midday today. Conditions pleasantly warm with a mild
cool breeze.
I was rewarded by splendid views of an Azure Kingfisher catching small
fish at the Irvine Rd. end of the Bailey Billabong.
Coprosma quadrifida (Native Currant) is in fruit and Silvereyes and
Red Wattlebirds park their young in the bushes and stuff them with the
fruit. On bush containing a pair of RWBs and their single youngster also
had a male Common Bronzewing feeding underneath taking fallen fruit -
or could it possibly take seeds voided by feeding birds?
No Red-whiskered Bulbul I'm sorry to say, though I looked carefully.
Otherwise, most of the usual suspects.
Later while we were having lunch at home, circa 1.30 pm, 9 or 10
Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos swept through our back garden in eerie
silence - looked like a low-level bombing raid. They went southwest down
to follow Darebin Creek downstream.
