Sightings of banded birds

I have seen various references to making reports of sightings of banded
birds. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about whether people were
interested in reports of such sightings and who they should be reported to.
I have some photos of colour banded purple crowned fairy wrens, one has 2
coloured bands on each leg, taken at Victoria River crossing in the NT.
Are just the colours useful or do you need to be able to read any letters
on the band? I'm just curious if such sightings are useful to anyone.
