Vin, you might have read it on the Parks Victoria website for the Brisbane
Ranges (http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/1park_display.cfm?park=73) which says:
"Mallee Fowl were found here but disappeared probably because they were
hunted for food by gold-miners."
