Hi all,
I'm with Philip, the incorrect use of THAT term always annoys me.
However as we have an evolving (making some words like this one totally illogical) language I suggest we think of the word that means killing ALL BUT 10 % which is appropriate for deer kill example below, and start using it everywhere so we can get that into Mike and others dictionaries and thesauri. Could it be perhaps novemate (we could also start using Octomate, septimate, pentamate etc) ?

Anyway judging from my vast knowledge of NZ, gleaned from reading of Footrot Flats - my main reference on life in NZ (appart from the Topp Twins show recently replayed on ABC TV) - Deer do cause a FEW problems of their own. Perhaps a usefull by-catch on this occasion?

As for dog deaths. While I totally sympathise with people who have lost their beloved canine friend that way,  due to a baiting site being not correctly sign-posted etc. (My mother has a neighbour who is very remiss on timely/correct notification of baiting) I cannot imagine that the NZ residents were not told the poisoning was occuring, (1080 is not too good for humans too) so how did  29 dogs get access to the baits. Surely responsible owners would lock/tie up their dogs?

Wendy Moore
ps I too am a bit confused about the interest of/reference to a german leader of the Protestant Reformation in 1080 or deer deaths?
