Further to Stephen Clark's original posting on Silver Gull breeding in
Victoria, I have the following response from colleague Ian Temby who has
studied Silver Gull problems in Victoria (and elsewhere). I also notice
the large number of inland breeding sites for the species in the Atlas of
Victoria Wildlife.

Hi Martin

Barry McLean is correct. It is not at all unusual for this "seabird"
species to breed inland. There is a sizeable colony that breeds in
Ballarat - has done for years- and HANZAB refers to inland breeding. These
birds are the ultimate opportunists - that there is not more inland
breeding is perhaps the surprising thing.

Cheers

Ian
