On Saturday I had a chance to drop into the Moonstone Walk wetland, Bundoora (in the estate behind the old Larundel psychiatric hospital) in the hope of seeing the famed Little Bittern - but to no avail.  However - it is a great little treasure of habitat.  Over the road from the La Trobe Uni wildlife reserve and housing estate or golf club on the other three sides, the two ponds/dams are teeming with a good range of wildlife, especially birds.  I found 15 species there in about half an hour.  The best sighting was a single Blue-billed Duck and a few Dusky Moorhen.
