Am I being selfish in deciding not to sign an on-line petition that requires my email address?  I am already invited to enlarge certain appendages, help rich Africans move money, or increase my sales efficiency on an unwelcomly regular basis.

I tried to add my name to support this worthy cause without entering an email.  I suppose I could make up one, but that makes a mockery of an on-line petition, and probably do more harm than good, as entering false information would surely (ethically, if not legally) invalidate the petition.
