Hi all,

The Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society of NZ have recently launched an online petition on their website.  The aim of this petition is to eliminate the illegal Pirate fisheries that currently exist, and threaten not only seabirds and other marine wildlife, but the fisheries themselves.

This petition has been born from the John Ridgway Save the Albatross Voyage and the BirdLife International 'Save the Albatross' Campaign. It is supported by BirdLife International and partner groups in over 100 countries, Greenpeace and the British Antarctic Survey. John Ridgway and representatives of conservation organisations will present the petition to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation in June 2004.

To sign the petition online, visit

http://www.forestandbird.org.nz/petition/index.asp

The petition is very quick and easy to complete, requiring just your name, city, country and email address to be completed.  These illegal fisheries are of dire concern, so please take a few moments to visit the site and ‘sign’ the petition.

Could those on other conservation/environmental/bird type newsgroups please forward this email, and also pass it on to friends and family.  Also those with websites, a link to the petition would be much appreciated!

Cheers and thanks,

Brent
