I spent another day in the Capertee Valley (NSW) on Saturday (11th Oct).
Although we could not locate the Regent Honeyeater which we saw at Glen
Alice last Tuesday, or the Painted Honeyeaters that had been so vocal near
Glen Davis the previous week, there were many other good birds. Highlights
included:
-Painted Button-quails seen at two locations.
-Brown Quails calling along Crown Station Road. Speckled Warbler and
Striped Honeyeaters along here as well.
-Stunning views of a male Turquoise Parrot feeding on the ground near Glen
Davis. (The much-viewed Turqs along Crown Station Road seem to have become
more difficult to find in the past couple of weeks.)
-White-cheeked Honeyeater still at Coco Creek, feeding in flowering
mistletoe along with the many New Hollands, Black-chinned and
Yellow-tufteds.
-Plum-headed Finches at Coco Creek.
-A single White-backed Swallow seen above the Capertee River at Glenowlan
Bridge.
-Several sightings of White-bellied Cuckoo-shrikes, including one
intermediate morph bird which looks very similar to a Black-faced.
-Little Ravens and Little Lorikeets at Glen Alice.
-Still good numbers of Rainbow Bee-eaters, White-winged Trillers and Dusky
Woodswallows throughout the valley. Interestingly, no White-browed
Woodswallows seen this season yet (by me at least).
We had a look for the Crimson Chat reported by David Hair on Huntingdale
Road, but could not find it. However, we did have very nice views of
Southern Whiteface and Diamond Firetail at this location.
It's always a magical valley!
