Perhaps he was there visiting his medical specialist
or perhaps just popping in to the Mitchel Library
but the highlight of our trip to the "big smoke" yesterday
was to see a Buff Banded Rail in a Macquarie St garden bed
outside the Botanical Gardens at midday.

We had extended close up views of the bird who was seemingly unconcerned
by the traffic thundering off the harbour bridge just meters away,
the fitness junkies sweating and puffing past getting their lunchtime fix
and the gardens groundsmen raking around him.

Location was outside the gates just above/behind the Conservatorium.
The bird seemed very keen on exploring a load of mulch/straw
that had just been laid in the bed.
