David Hollands Book "Eagle Hawks and Falcons of
Australia" P201 quotes about the Black Falcon "will pirate food from other
raptors and comes to carrion more readilly than any other Australian falcon".
Now after seeing them at 2 tips, I am wondering how many other Black Falcons
have gone unoticed at other tips. However after seeing them 4 times this year at
the East Maitland tip over 2 hours, I have mainly seen (presumably both male and
female) Black Falcons going after the mob of Starlings or causing
havoc to the other residents (Gulls, Ibis etc) probably just for the fun of
it. As Hollands mentions "Of all the Hawks, the Black Falcon is the cavalier,
active, audacious and forever ready to provoke an incident." (sounds a bit like
me...only kidding!).
