Further to Alan's comments I have been thinking about this and the earlier record from this year at Bass Point. I was wondering whether consideration of mutation Neophema escapees are the source of these records. I can't check the archives at work but I believe the Bass Point bird was banded. Though it is possible that the bird may be the same individual, and there is a high likelihood of an OBP having a band (due to the breeding program) to be seen so far north makes me think that it also a likelihood that it is an avairy escapee with a band. The point that both birds were also very quiet and didn't fly far from the observer may indicate a bird used to people.

Have any of the Sydney birders gone out to confirm this species? I have not seen OBP so I am not the best person to do the ID but if it is still around on the weekend I would be keen to make a visit to Maroubra to have a look.

The fact that the birds have ab otrange belly may not be the key identifying feature as many avairy Turquoise Parrots (and the odd wild bird) do have this feature.

Sorry this message is a bit all over the place - my head isn't 100 percent today.

Cheers,
Peter
