Hi birders

This is not meant to be an advertisement, so I'll keep my comments general.

Anyone who has kept an eye on the digiscoping phenomenon (see Birding-Aus archive for an explanation of what this is) will have noticed that a group of swivel design Nikon Coolpix cameras (current the 4500) dominate the field. There are a number of technical features which contribute to this - principally the small diameter lens, and completely internal zoom - it's also a pretty decent 4MP camera for other purposes, particularly macrophotography. Anyhow, the gist of this message is that the price is falling - perhaps the 4500 is about to be superseded - but the lowest retail price has fallen by about 30% in the last year or so since it was released. Now or soon might be a good time to buy - contact me if you're interested in where I got mine (in Australia) for $1049 (most others still selling it for $1300-1500).
