Hi all

In the Illawarra/Shoalhaven regions of NSW (sth of Sydney) Fan-tailed Cuckoo is present in winter and there nearly always a few Horsefield's and Shining Bronze-Cuckoos. Two of the latter species were recorded from Bass Point only last weekend.
Generally they only seem to call on clear, still sunny days.
In 24 years of birding here I can't recall Pallid or Brush Cuckoo in winter though.
I remember when I started birding, way back in 1980, the locals used to say that Fan-tails always disappeared in winter.
If they don't call, cuckoos are rarely encountered, even in summer.

cheers
chris
