Hi all,
made it out to the Western Treatment Plant Werribee yesterday to see if
l could find the Oriental Pratincole and other interesting birds. Luck was on
my side. I located the bird where it had previously been observed, north of
Paradise Road (at the end) near the Little River (east side of the Paradise
Lagoons). I meet up with a few other local birdos, and we observed the bird
(sitting in the paddock) for about 20 mins. It then took flight and began
feeding on the wing over Lake Borrie. We all had excellent views of the it
feeding for about 10-15 mins.
Glossy Ibis, Cape Barren Geese, Common Greenshank, Banded and Black-winged
Stilt and all the usual duck species, with the exception of the Northern
Shoveller were also seen. The other guys out there also mentioned they saw a
pair of Brolgas flying over Pt Wilson Road near T-section Lagoons, however, l
didn't have much luck locating them.
Anyway for those who are interested the Oriental Pratincole is still there.
