Took a day trip out to Munghorn Gap yesterday and had
a fantastic time. Saw 79 species all up including one
lifer and a couple I haven't seen in years. Here is a
list of the highlights.
Jones Reserve Road (Jerrys Plains-Yarrawa)- Large
flock of Double-bar and Zebra Finches including many
young. Also a Western Gerygone and 50+ Red-rumps.
Kings Gap- 1 Diamond Firetail
Philips Cutting?- 2 Grey-crowned Babbler and
Yellow-tailed Black-cockatoos with dependent young
5-6Km East of Wollar- 20+ Yellow-tufted Honeyeater,
Little Lorikeet, 1 Diamond Firetail, Peaceful Dove,
Brown Treecreeper and 1 male Turquoise Parrot (tick).
Munghorn Gap- 1 Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater, 1 male
Scarlet Honeyeater, 1 male Scarlet Robin, 1 male
Spotted Quail-thrush, and 1 Diamond Firetail.
The trip back home produced Little Friarbird, Striped
Honeyeater and many Common Bronzewings.
Last stop of the day was at a small farm dam about 7Km
east of Wollar. It was getting late so all the birds
were coming into drink including 1 Diamond Firetail, 2
Turquoise Parrots, Speckled Warblers and around 6
Gang-gang Cockatoos. What is the northern limit of the
10 species of parrot
6 species of bird of prey
13 species of honeyeater
A very long day but well worth it.
