"A western Queensland grazier has discovered a new type of turtle and gained the honour of having it named after him.

Angus Emmott of Noonbah Station says he has had a life-long passion for the natural history of outback Queensland.

Mr Emmott has already had his name given to a lizard, a cicada and a wren he discovered.

The Emmott's shortneck turtle has now joined the list.

Mr Emmott says he has been watching the large turtle for some time.

He says the newly recognised species appears to be unique to the Cooper Creek system."

what was the "wren", a subspecies of a Grass-wren sp?
