Following all this, some might to join or support the
Invasive Species Council:
http://home.vicnet.net.au/~invasive/home.htm

One of the committee members is Tim Low ('Feral Future'
etc.) who recently sent the Enviroweeds mailing list an
email on "Australia's Quarantine Farce".

Tim wrote we "...have a permitted (white) list of species
that may be imported without weed risk assessment [WRA].
This list is not publicly available ...[but a knowledgeable
person]...says the permitted list contains more than 3,000
genera - a number so enormous it makes a mockery of WRA.
Included are most genera of garden plants, crop plants and
large grass genera, many of which include weedy species, for
example Paspalum, Brassica and Portulaca."
