"If anyone knows of somewhere where there are usually silvereyes at this time of year". A rather odd question. Some sort of context is required. Where's Sophie, for a start? Silvereyes are a common species and you should be able to find them in most areas at this time of year. With the exception of perhaps the Tasmanian population (someone there might be able to clearly state whether this is so or not) most areas have a migratory and sedentary componant of the population - that is some birds that breed around Sydney (for example) will migrate further north in winter while others will remain (yet another of what banding studies have been able to tell us). I'm pretty sure the same holds for more southerly populations such as around Melbourne. So, depending on where Sophie is, she shouldn't have to much trouble finding Silvereyes in winter. A more specific answer might be - the northern NSW heathlands will be holding thousands of them at the moment - but this answer would only mask the bigger picture.
