I saw the Pratincoles today! I nearly missed
them, but returned later to have them helpfully scoped up and ready for a
ticking (I missed the discussion about twitchers). they were in the same
place as so accurately described by Russ and Celia.
Fantastic birds, but now I will have to go and see
Aussie Pratincoles this summer.
So what is the story with really good birds turning
up while I'm on holidays? I dipped on the Little Bittern, while I was
stooging, unsuccessfully, around Sherwood Arboretum in Brisbane looking for them
in January, and now I turn my back for 1 minute and look what turns
I also got Stubble Quail today (tick) and ticked
Regent Honeyeater at Chiltern NP on the 21st and Black Falcon later that week in
Now I just need to get onto OBP's (they have
arrived apparently) this winter and I'll be wrapped.
Thanks to the various people who showed concern
that I (the Vic Birdline organiser) might ironically miss on this most
twitchable of birds.
