In light of the recent report of the return of a South Island Pied
Oystercatcher (SIPO) to the beach
near Ballina, NSW, (see Mike Carter's posting "Rare Birds", Thu, 17 Apr 2003
15:40:42 -0000 at:
http://menura.cse.unsw.edu.au:64800/2003/04/msg00212.html )
I have added an album of images of the SIPO I recorded (visually not audibly)
and photographed
at Woody Point/Clontarf in SE Queensland during 2001.
These images are presented for the purpose of aiding in the identification of
the SIPO.
Please note that it is probable that only the one individual was photographed.
It should be reasonable to assume that this bird is typical of the species but
this
cannot be guaranteed.

Also note that there has not been a report of a SIPO in the Woody
Point/Clontarf area since
late in 2001.
However, it would seem that it is always worthwhile keeping an eye out for this
species anywhere on
the east coast of Australia.

To see the album go to: http://www.powerup.com.au/~inglisrc
then navigate to the list of albums.
Choose the South Island Pied Oystercatcher album.

If there are any queries about the images please email me on the address
provided on the web-site.

Good luck.
