Bob Swindley rang me after seeing a male Northern Shoveler at the T-section
Lagoon at the Western Treatment Plant (Werribee Sewage Farm) this morning
(as part of the studies we are doing for Melbourne Water). It was in
flight with other ducks, and was not located subsequently. Last year's
bird stayed for several weeks, so hopefully this will do likewise though
there are no guarantees. (It may be the same individual, of course.) The
T-section lagoon is on the right hand side of 29-mile Road as you drive
towards Point Wilson, after passing Austin Road. Permits are needed to
enter the farm as usual (ph 131722), and care should be taken to minimise
disturbance to the ducks. Cheers, Richard.
