Hello All,

I have a friend whose sleep has been disturbed 'every night for a week' by an owl. It seems most likely that it is a Barking Owl.

Is it known why they scream? For how long it is likely to go on? and if there is any deterrence or avoidance my friend can use?

Today had another friend ring to say he had a strange honeyeater outside his office window. Turned out to be an immature Scarlet but it was unusual. Its feet were bright yellow ( sometimes around here the whole leg on fledglings can be yellow) the flight feathers were strongly edged an almost white against a dark grey-brown centre, lower bill and gape were yellow as was the base of the upper bill. The tail was very short indicating a young bird and it was plump in the extreme. No wonder people think they have seen something new when the birds look so little like their portraits. We must teach the little blighters to read the bird guides!!!!!!!!
