Ummm...., might I suggest a possible solution?  Depending on how your internet browser and Windows XP is configured, image files that are downloaded from the internet can automatically become available to the desktop to use as a background image.  This can happen if the picture has been saved or has been viewed in a program other than the internet browser.
 
I don't know if that's what happened in this instance, but it is a possible explanation for the peregrine falcon image appearing in the desktop background menu.
