Hi all,
Had a look at Ash Island (near Newcastle, NSW) this morning and found a
Black-Necked Stork on the lagoon the far-side (east) of the railway line.
Also in the area were good numbers and variety of waders including about 80
Marsh Sandpiper, 40 Red-Necked Avocet, 26 Red-necked Stints (including 1
bird just about in full breeding plumage), 40 Sharp-Tailed Sandpipers, 10
Curlew Sandpiper, 2 Eastern Curlew, 9 Pacific Golden Plover, a single
Greenshank and a single Double-Banded Plover. Also heard a Bar-Shouldered
Dove on the far corner near the railway, and saw a White-Breasted
Woodswallow overhead on the wires in the same area. White-fronted Chats were
also very common.
On the way back to Sydney stopped at Minmi (the wetland on the west side of
freeway) and saw 24 Yellow-billed Spoonbill with a single Royal Spoonbill
together with 40 Glossy Ibis. Also at this wetland was a single Red-Necked
Avocet.
