For the VicGroup outing on Saturday morning, 23 birders met at the Wilson
Reserve and Chelsworth Park in Ivanhoe, Victoria.

Present from this list were Alan and Jan Flack, Karen Pearson, Anthea
Fleming as well as yours truly (there may have been others too).

Anthea Fleming gave an excellent introductory talk about the history of the
area, including some rare historical photographs and a huge aerial photo
that covered the bonnet of a parked car.

About four hours was spent strolling around the riparian bushland and
billabongs in the park. The group split into two, meeting half way around
and then again at the end.

A good morning's birding, netting some 47 species, as below. The Red
whiskered bulbul wasn't very co-operative, though. (Lucky I hadn't
guaranteed the bird, or I'd be pulling some embarrassing stunt this
morning...)

Australian Wood Duck
Pacific Black Duck
Chestnut Teal
Little Pied Cormorant
Little Black Cormorant
White-faced Heron
Nankeen Night Heron
Brown Goshawk
Purple Swamphen
Dusky Moorhen

Many thanks to Anthea Fleming for background history, photographs and
commentary (as well a lot of IDs), and to Robert Bender for additional
observations for the bird list, as well as all the people who turned up,
some coming long distances, to make the walk a success.
