I went for a quick watch this morning in the northern section of Banyule Flats, for about an hour.  In spite of the smoke there was a good variety of birds about.  The most interesting were Latham's Snipe, which were actively foraging, preening and giving most un-snipelike views.  All up, 41 species (in approximate taxonomic order):
Black Duck
Chestnut Teal
White-faced Heron
Yellow-billed Spoonbill
Straw-necked Ibis
Buff-banded Rail
Dusky Moorhen
Purple Swamphen
Latham's Snipe
Black-winged Stilt
Black-fronted Dotterel
Masked Lapwing
Spotted Turtledove
Sulphur-crested Cockatoo
Rainbow Lorikeet
Red-rumped Parrot
Tawny Frogmouth
Superb Fairy-wren
Brown Thornbill
White-browed Scrubwren
Noisy Miner
Bell Miner (heard)
Little Wattlebird
Grey Fantail
Willie Wagtail
Grey Butcherbird
Little Raven (heard)
Clamorous Reed-warbler
Welcome Swallow
Fairy Martin
Red-browed Finch
