 I went for a quick 
watch this morning in the northern section of Banyule Flats, for about an 
hour.  In spite of the smoke there was a good variety of birds about.  
The most interesting were Latham's Snipe, which were actively foraging, preening 
and giving most un-snipelike views.  All up, 41 species (in approximate 
taxonomic order):

Chestnut 
Teal 
White-faced 
Heron 
Yellow-billed 
Spoonbill 
Straw-necked 
Ibis 
Buff-banded 
Rail 
Coot 
Dusky 
Moorhen 
Purple
