This is my first time on the mailing list. Just like to thank Jill Dening and helpers at the tern i.d
day at Caloundra sand banks. Had a great morning and would recommend it to anyone interested.
Got a great view of the laughing gull this morning (after dropping the kids off at Woorim beach).
It was on the sand bar ( near Buckleys Hole) with 60+ crested terns, 40 silver gulls, 3 common
terns, 2 gull-billed terns and a lone lesser crested tern (a lifer for me ).Also spotted a pair of  wandering
whistling - ducks loafing on the edge of the lagoon opposite the bird-hide.
Popped in at the Kakadu beach wader roost on the way home. No terns or waders ( maybe they'd
been disturbed by the thoughtless people  who'd parked their boat and were playing with their dog!)
But their were 17 pied oyster-catchers, 17 black-winged stilts, 30+ silver gulls and 1 sooty oyster-catcher
around the lagoon behind the beach.    Happy birding to all.  John Kooistra , Landsborough,QLD
