Sorry to be hitting the list so much today, but things are happening.
As there is a Laughing Gull at Bribie Is, SEQ, and there will be those who
will want to tick it, would any of you mind having a look at the Kakadu
Beach roost whilst you are there? I have just received a message from a
Bribie resident who thinks there were three Black-naped Terns at the roost
yesterday. This would be unusual, but not impossible given the current
weather conditions. Most often, Gull-billed Terns are misidentified as
Black-naped Terns. However, Gull-billed Terns are frequent users of the
Kakadu Beach roost, and the person making the report shouldn't be confusing
This is not worth rushing out on a special trip, but if anyone is in the
vicinity, please do report what you find.
( I have had a number of reports of late that over a thousand Bar-tailed
Godwits plus others have been using the artificial Kakadu Beach roost at
high tide. We still can't get Eastern Curlew to use it - they keep battling
to use the old roost despite all the earth moving equipment.)
