On New Year's Day in the Capertee Valley I watched the biggest flock of
White-throated Needletails I've seen in a very long time, flying over the
river in a southerly direction. I gave up counting after reaching 1000. We
continued seeing them all that afternoon until around 6pm, flying low in
smaller groups throughout the valley. This was after a morning of fairly
heavy and widespread rain and between lighter showers. Quite an incredible
sight. I scanned carefully for Fork-tailed Swifts amongst them but saw none.

The following day (2nd Jan) there were about 100 needletails circling over
McGrath's Hill, near Windsor, NSW.
