Great birding around Windsor today. Started off at McGrath's Hill STW,
where there are still lots of crakes, starting at the first two ponds there
were 5 Baillon's and 3 Spotted Crakes and the numbers kept growing! Lots
of Latham's Snipe, Glossy Ibis, Red-kneed Dotterels, Sharp-tailed
Sandpipers, Chestnut-breasted Finches, also a Swamp Harrier just to mention
a few of the many birds at this site.. At Bush's (Fernleigh's) Lagoon in
Powell's Lane around 1.30 p.m. we had 5 Little Curlews, 1 Ruff, several
Marsh Sandpipers, Greenshank, Sharp-tailed Sandpipers etc. The 5 Little
Curlews arrived while we were studying the Ruff, staying less than 10
minutes and then were off again. Lunch at Pugh's Lagoon with Nankeen
Night-herons, more Baillon's Crakes and Red-kneed Dotterels! The day kept
getting even better with a Square-tailed Kite at Coromandel Road Ebenezer,
another really great looking bird. Afternoon tea at Sackville with
White-bellied Sea-Eagle, Bar-shouldered Dove and Common Cicadabird. There
were also many White-winged Trillers, a few Brown Songlarks, Rufous
Songlarks, White-necked Heron, Yellow-billed Spoonbills around the Windsor
area too. Happy birding Judi & Neil
