Hello Dion and all,
Thanks, Dion, for the confirmation of the Albatross ID.
Single birds can be a bit of a trap at times!

"Hi all,
the photograph Rob is referring to is an adult Chatham Island Albatross not
an immature Shy Albatross as it is labelled. It was a single bird that
returned to Albatross Island off Tasmania several years in a row mingling
with the nesting Shy Albatross. Thats what I heard anyway.
The photo is on page 126 of the 1986 Photographic Idex of Australian Birds-
Seabirds volume.
The mystery albatross photographed by Brent Stephenson off Kaikoura looks
like fresh adult Salvin's Albatross to me.
Cheers
Dion"
