I may be wrong in this comment (as I haven't had time to check out the B-A
archives) but Spotted Harriers do not feature all that often in observations
on Birding-Aus.

I have only observed this bird on a few occasions myself but in the last 2
weeks I have observed it 3 times.

The first sighting was at home and as such was a new species for my home
list (first sighting in nearly 18 years of observations).

Yesterday, while travelling from Jamestown (mid-north South Australia) to
home here in Murray Bridge I observed another 2 Spotted Harriers.

The first sighting was just west Marrabel (SW of Clare) and the second was
just west of Sedan (north of Murray Bridge).

This last sighting was made all the more interesting as I was able to pull
up safely and watch it soaring around the car for several minutes.

Beautiful, majestic bird.

Happy birding,

Trevor Hampel
