Hi folks

Yes, the Bulbul in Ivanhoe isn't just a long running conspiracy - I've now
seen it (or maybe I've just been inducted into the conspiracy - you be the
judge)!

This morning at about 9am Tim Dolby and I met at Chelsworth Park and
wandered around looking for a few birds. We got fleeting glimpses of a
Spotless crake as it scuttled (which is all crakes seem to do) across the
billabong which is between Chelsworth Park and the Wilson Reserve.
Yesterday's rain had diminished its mud flats, but there were enough for it
to still be around. Then we picked our way into the swamp in search of the
Bulbul.

After some lengthy periods listening, the bird turned up at the top of a
dead tree. This tree turned out to be a ripper, producing (all within 30
seconds) the Red whiskered bulbul (female, the male was calling over towards
the Boulevard), a Mistletoe bird, a Red wattle bird, a couple of Spotted
pardalotes and a White plumed honeyeater. I'm now going to go and cut the
tree down and transplant it to my back yard.

Another highlight was hearing a Little grassbird calling from the small pond
between Carole's Bench and the third tee on the golf course.

Many thanks to Tim for taking the time to show me this excellent bird. I'm
most pleased, as this has been my bugbear bird for the last 18 months.

Happy Bill
