Just a thought:

Maybe birds are drinking from "risky" water sources due to the drought,  that contain poisons.

This would be sad, and maybe this should be made known to the public to encourage "clean" water usage and disposal.

It's comon on verry hot days it dosen't have to be a drought,but i am sure it would worsten the problem.Also if poisons like Lucijet are being used by farmers in the area it can kill the wildlife it is popular.If it is the drought causing the deaths it is a real worry as it is only verry early in the drought.They don't expect rains for the next three months the bird losses would be verry high.
