Peter,

Here in the Blue Mountains things have been very different - we're having a
big cicada season and they started earlier than usual (it was early
October). I'm a bit puzzled as to why this is, given that conditions are
dry here as well. In some places they are so loud it makes birding almost
impossible, and I'm surprised to hear that other areas have had none.
