Hi everyone,
Just a quick note to let those who are interested know that on
Friday (18/1002) l was out at the Western Treatment Plant (Melbourne) along
Murtcaim Road east of Ryans Swamp and observed a large flock (200+) of
White-browed Woodswallow, 2-3 Masked Woodswallows and possibly (not too
sure) one White-breasted Woodswallow. The drought conditions are certainly
seeing a number of uncommon bird species heading further south and towards
the coast as shown by Barbara Jones sighting of about 250 White-browed
Woodswallows at Nethercote (NSW far south coast). Similarly, at the WTP
they were like a swam of bees feeding and roosting in paddocks.
I had a quick search on the Atlas of Victorian Wildlife (2001) and found
that there have not been any records of White-browed Woodswallows or
White-breasted Woodswallow for that matter at the Western Treatment Plant.
However, there are a few records of White-browed Woodswallows east of the
Werribee River and around the You Yang's.
Certainly is great time to head out there and have a look at these nomadic
species.
