g'day all,
I revisited Wide Bay on the western side of Lake Moondarra
today.
I spent 4 hours recording 70 species with temp over
41C
Strangely no Black-fronted or Red-kneed Dotterels and only a
single Willy Wagtail.
The drought must be bad to see so few WWs ?
I did record my first Inland
Dotterels at the Isa. The camouflage of the 7 birds was perfect
for the surrounds.
There were still 100s of Oriental Plovers
& Red-capped Dotterels and perhaps a dozen
Red-necked Stints
Freckled Duck were scattered amongst all the
other waterfowl. Some were even standing at the waters edge. It was hard to
guess total numbers but a 100 would be in the ball court. Small groups of
brilliant yellow Orange Chats were seen at different
locations.
I saw my first Dollarbird for the season
(Common Koel & Channel-billed Cuckoos yet to come) and
also at least 2 Jabiru.
I could not locate last weeks Long-toed Stints or the 2
Pacific Golden Plover.
I have now recorded 164 species at the Lake.
