G'day,

Just a couple of observations from what was supposed to be a
'non-intentional' birding weekend! Time in the garden has its benefits.

1) Black-eared Cuckoo - one bird seen from as close as 5-6 metres. Bird
was in casuarinas planted mid-way along the west side of Cherry Lake, where
a wooden bridge crosses a narrow outlet into a nice little wetland.

2) Swift Parrots - two lovely adult birds perched in yellow gum in front
garden, seen from front porch on Saturday morning (what a fine way to
celebrate National Threatened Species Day!).

3) Little Lorikeets - several birds feeding in flowering spotted gums
around Altona North, Altona East and Newport

4) Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater - One bird at home, Altona North

5) Singing Honeyeater - one bird at the Newport Indigenous Nursery just
north of Mason Street. Incidentally, this nursery is terrific,
specialising in plants indigenous to the grasslands and grassy Grey Box
woodlands of the western Melbourne region. Check it out!

Bye for now.

Chris
