This behaviour ie Horsfield's Bronze-Cuckoos feeding on the ground was discussed a while ago in Birding-Aus so I thought I'd add contribute this.

Yesterday (9/8/02), at the Ross River Bush Garden, Townsville,  I watched a Horsfield's Bronze-Cuckoo feeding on the ground for at least 5 minutes. The area was open & treeless with short (rather dead) grass on stony ground. It was hopping rapidly along the ground, not appearing to find anything to eat at all. It covered perhaps 50 metres in this way before I left. During this time it incurred the wrath of a White-gaped Honeyeater & a Rufous-throated Honeyeater.

Also at the Ross River recently have been Great Crested Grebes, a pair seen consistently over period of a month now.
