Following on the discussion about who should and shouldn't carry
ornithological literature around in the park, I propose the following:

Guy at the beach with bins and Pizzey or Slater = novice birder

Guy at the beach with scope and tripod (no field guide) = British birder

Guy at the beach with scope, bins, tripod and Harrison's seabirds = novice
birder pretending to be a pelagic expert

Guy at the beach with waterproof Leicas, non-slip shoes, a couple of
battered notebooks, broken pencil, no pen or field guide = pelagic expert

Guy at the beach with waterproof Leicas, notes scribbled on recent boarding
pass, and a statutory declaration stating that the holder has not opened a
field guide in the last 24 hours = twitcher

Guy at the beach with bins and "What Bird is That" = pervert
