I've heard of such a number here or elsewhere.

In February the federal government asked the National Office for the
Information Economy to review the problem of unsolicited commercial
e-mail (spam).  See: http://www.noie.gov.au/Projects/consumer/Spam/
far as I know nothing has happened.

The only recent news I can recall is that there is an inquiry into a
federal government department (FACS) for sending inappropriate junk
e-mail!

Almost all the spam I get is from outside Australia and
unlikely to be affected by actions by Australian government.
Still better legistaltion might prevent outrages like this:
