This is also common in Melbourne CBD, with similar numbers (50 - 200) Silver
Gulls circling both the Arts Centre Spire and the tall Pylons of the new
Bolte Bridge at night.  It seems fairly obvious that they are attracted to
these tall structures that are floodlit at night.

I agree that there seems to be no logical reason other than chasing moths,
