Easy Patterson has reported a female Painted Snipe at Herdsman Lake in Perth this morning (Saturday 17th May).

The location is near the tennis courts off the north end of Herdsman Drive near Jon Sanders Drive. Park in the car park near the tennis courts, and walk around to the left (south) for 100 to 200 metres or so to an area where there are some young trees being grown near the typha reeds. The snipe was in the flooded grass. It flushed into the reeds but didn't go too far, and so hopefully it will stay around for a while. Painted Snipe in the eastern states recently have been site faithful for quite long periods of time.
