I was at work turning over a large compost heap with a frontend loader
and as usual a family of Magpies came down and was feeding on the insects
that were disturbed, when i noticed one Magpie frantically chasing something
around the edge of the heap.It finally caught what it was chasing and i saw
that it was a mouse. The bird shook and pecked the mouse till it was dead
then held it down with one foot while it ripped it apart and ate it.
I was telling a work mate about it and he said he had seen the same thing
on another occassion. Is it common for Magpies to feed on small prey?
