Bird Surveys in the Quirindi Creek Catchment, NSW (Sunday 26th May 2002)

Following the success of the Birds Australia Liverpool Plains Woodland Bird Project, a bird survey and workshop/bird watching tour will be conducted at Quirindi next weekend, not this weekend as previously advertised.  The survey will occur on Sunday 26th commencing at 7am, and the workshop & birdwatching will be at on Monday 27th at 8am)

Why a survey?

The Quirindi Creek Catchment Committee is embarking on an extensive program of riparian (creek line) revegetation and protection.  One of the core actions of the program is to fence sections of riparian areas to promote the re-establishment of endemic reed, grass, shrub and tree species.  Bird species are valuable indicators of ecosystem health, and these surveys will be important in collecting baseline data.

Survey locations?

The survey will occur at 10 designated points approx. 3km apart along Quirindi Creek which lies to the east of the Quirindi township toward Wallabadah.  Survey sites are located on public land however, we have pre-arranged access via a number of landholders properties.  Surveyors will be required to conduct Atlas surveys (2-hectare Area Search) at each of the 10 sites along the Creek.
