Hi all
I visited this well-named dam (36deg 10min 10 sec South, 146deg 38 min 17 sec
East) in the Chiltern Box-Ironbark National Park in north east Victoria last
Saturday, hoping for a sighting of a Regent Honeyeater. Although the bush
seemed very dry and I could see nothing flowering, I was surprised at the
numbers of honeyeaters present. Within about twenty minutes, while having lunch
at the picnic area beside the dam (formerly called Cyanide Dam, a legacy of
gold-prospecting times in the area), I had seen or heard five species of
honeyeaters, but no Regents. After lunch, I watched Yellow-tufted Honeyeaters
flocking down to the drying dam to drink, and was delighted to see a single
Regent Honeyeater join them. A Red Wattlebird seen soon after raised the count
to seven honeyeaters - perhaps something was flowering after all. List follows.

Striated Pardalote
Spotted Pardalote
Golden Whistler
Grey Shrike-thrush
Superb Fairy-wren
Crested Shrike-tit
Brown Treecreeper
White-throated Treecreeper
Scarlet Robin

White-plumed Honeyeater
