Shirley Cameron and I had the pleasure of showing a French birder, Francois
Guerquin, around the Western Treatment Plant last Friday. We ended the day
with an amazing total of 95 species ! Not bad for late autumn. Highlights
were Collared Sparrowhawk and several Brown Goshawks, 2 Peregrine Falcons, 41
Red Knot at Little River (several in breeding plumage), 9 Black-tailed Godwits
at Austin Road (3 in breeding plumage), 9 Darters, 9 Freckled Duck, 2 Great
Crested Grebe, 3 Glossy Ibis, over 100 Royal and Yellow-billed Spoonbill,
hundreds and hundreds of Banded Stilt, a pair of Blue-Winged Parrots,
White-winged Black Terns in breeding plumage (stunning !), and a Striated
Fieldwren that sat up in the branches of a dead tree for several minutes
allowing wonderful views. The coomplete list follows.

Regards,

Tania.
