Yesterday the autumn Spinebills turned up in our Canberra suburb as they always do at about this time, but this year two Spinebills started singing in two separate spots, almost as though, having seen out two flowering banksias and other flowering natives, they thought it was worth claiming a territory. I haven't noticed this in previous years.

What was equally intereting was that, at this, all the local Red Wattlebirds started calling and getting agitated, as if they were going to contest the new arrivals' right to be there.

Haven't heard much activity this morning, perhaps the Wattlebirds managed to chase off the Spinebills.
