David and Ozzers:
Good question. While I'm not a trained taxonomist, the subject fascinates me
and I've had a few occasions to cite taxonomic works. I suspect the right
answer is to cite the original work (research) if possible. HANZAB does
have much original research; I'm always impressed at the extent of the
research done by those writing for HANZAB (David James, for example), with
specimens examined and measured etc; it's not just a literature review! I
have a personal doubt about citing a work that I have not personally read,
though. In such a case, should one cite a more general work, such as HANZAB?
How about Tiger Woods and 2 Kiwis at the top of the Bay Hill (PGA) golf????
